I am just over halfway through season three of the Netflix show “The Lincoln Lawyer,” and so far, it is getting a solid thumbs up from this particular observer.
For those that haven’t seen it, or maybe not even heard of it, “The Lincoln Lawyer” is based on the Michael Connelly book series, and is a combination of drama, a touch of violence, a dash of romance and a decent helping of understated but effective humor. Not a bad combination, and when blended together, it makes for a nice “television smoothie,” if we can take it to that level.
The show is solid as they come. Not spectacular, not awe-inspiring, not even inspirational—just good old meat-and-potatoes, bring-it-back-home quality television entertainment.
The cast is pretty unique because, beside Neve Campbell (who plays the ex-wife and has a fairly small role), the actors and actresses on the show are mostly unfamiliar faces. Maybe not well-known, but they fill their roles perfectly, with each bringing a different element to the show.
The supporting cast is varied in size, shape and color, including my personal favorite, Angus Sampson as “Cisco”—one of the top investigators on “The Lincoln Lawyer” —who, how shall we say it, has a unique style to ferret out information from different folks in the over- and underworld.
Manuel Garcias-Rulfo is the star, playing the part of super-cool Mickey Haller, who is “The Lincoln Lawyer,” named so because he does a lot of his work and thinking in the back of his Lincoln car.
Season three is up and running right now on Netflix. Again, I am not all the way through–only slightly more than halfway home–but it seems right on target from the previous two. Fast-moving, lots of twists and turns, character development for the supporting cast from previous seasons, and some new characters, including a new romantic interest for Mickey.
I will wait for completion to make an official analysis, but so far, so good on season three of the underrated “The Lincoln Lawyer.”
