Netflix has announced it will phase out its Basic plan, the lowest-priced ad-free option in the US at $11.99 per month.
According to a report by ABC, the streaming giant had already stopped accepting new subscriptions for this plan, directing customers to the ad-supported plan priced at $6.99 per month instead.
Existing Basic subscribers who prefer an ad-free experience can opt for Netflix's Standard plan at $15.49 per month or the Premium plan at $22.99 per month.
In the second financial quarter of 2024, Netflix reportedly experienced a 34% increase in subscriptions to its ad-supported plan, exceeding competitors such as Disney+, Peacock, and Max.
The streaming giant also reportedly gained 8.05 million new subscribers, in part due to efforts to minimize password sharing and persuade users to set up individual accounts.
