Not sure why… but as our website’s highly unofficial sports expert, I decided to partake in a quick word-association exercise in regard to many of our favorite sports.
Analyze this as you may, but I wouldn’t overanalyze too much, as these are just quick first thoughts on some of the games we are known to play and watch.
Bowling: Why? That’s it… why?
Pickleball: Don’t knock it till you try it. Bonus? Doctors and surgeons love it!
Tennis: Doubles? Boring. Singles? Great workout.
Ping-Pong: I refuse to play against people who say to you, “The correct name is table tennis.”
Boxing: Actually, very entertaining—if you forget the fact 80% of the competitors will suffer from brain-related neurological diseases later in life.
Running: So motivating when you watch others do it… soooo painful when you try it yourself.
Lacrosse: Everybody seems to love it, except me! (Where’s the snooze alarm button?)
Baseball: Yawn. Next!
Cricket: What do the folks in India get that we don’t?
Football: Still one of the best sports to watch, minus the commercial breaks ad nauseam, and the equally painful long replay reviews.

Golf: Costs too much. Takes too much time. Frustrating as heck. To me, it is a good walk ruined. But I do love watching the final day of a major… sports drama at its finest.
Gymnastics: These girls—and guys—do some amazing stuff. Seriously great athletes.
Horse Racing: Count me as one of the dying—and diehard–– fans. I loved Arlington Park Race Course, and my lifelong Chicago Bear fandom has been injured permanently by the Bears’ tearing down the racetrack.
Rowing: Ultimate respect for those who endure this grueling sport.
Soccer: Love it! Most popular sport in the world, and for a good reason. Americans need to join the party.
Softball: More action in one hour of a good softball game (slow pitch, not the pitcher-dominated fast pitch) than in three hours of a baseball game.
Swimming: No better workout for the whole body.
Volleyball: Underrated! Note: The girls’ game is much better than the guys’ version because the volleys are longer and more exciting.
College basketball’s March Madness: Never fails to hit all emotions. The highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
NBA playoffs: Good stuff, but wake me up when you get to games six and seven.
NHL playoffs: Borrowing from a familiar Neil Diamond song, “So good, so good, so good!”
