In the serene lobby of the CityView Condominiums, December Doorperson of the Month Maureen Chacon-Batts is given fresh fruit from a resident. Another tenant drops off holiday cookies for her, and she is literally serenaded by a resident singing to her “Have a good afternoon.”

“I love working here, the residents, and the vibe,” she says.

To say Maureen is a highly regarded ten-year veteran doorperson at CityView might be the understatement of the year.

Maureen hails from a solid background in customer service, having worked in reservations for American Airlines, British Airways and Hilton Hotels. She works the evening shift and describes herself as an honest person, a perfectionist, and good with following through on residents’ requests.

Maureen shares a recent, stressful tale reflective of her work ethic: “I pride myself on not having ever been late for a shift. But the other day, with a shooting that occurred in Oak Park, various roads were shut down and I was almost late to work for the first time in ten years.”

CityView is a two-building condominium complex just steps away from Navy Pier and Michigan Avenue. “We have a beautiful View Court which looks out over the Ogden Slip where people can see all of the summer and holiday fireworks.”  There is also a fitness center and a sundeck that can be rented for private parties.

“It’s a great place to be, but of course like everywhere nowadays, residents are concerned about safety issues. Like most all of our neighboring buildings, the doors close at 9 p.m. and after that, residents have to use their key fobs.”

Maureen has traveled the world thanks to her benefits from earlier customer service positions. She was born on the island of Trinidad, relocated to the United States in 1980, and chose to settle in Chicago. She hopes to make it back to British Columbia soon to visit her sister.

“I’m most blessed by my two daughters, Triniece and Elisa, who both live in the area,” she says, smiling. In her spare time she enjoys shopping, cooking, reading, and family time.

Another resident passes by the front desk and comments on Maureen’s lipstick choice. “Thank you. It’s Rihanna Fenty’s brand, and the color is called The MVP,” she says.

Everyone seems to agree that Maureen is a most valuable player at CityView Condominiums.
