September Doorperson of the Month: Marquis Mosley, The Streeter

Marquis Mosley is a kind, watchful presence at the front desk of The Streeter at 345 E. Ohio St. It’s a highly chaotic lobby, yet Marquis handles everything from residents’ requests to delivery questions with both a calm demeanor and a reassuring smile.

Marquis has been at The Streeter for two and a half years. He says, “I’ve become much more of a people person serving in this position, and my favorite part of the job is getting to know the residents.”

He has to monitor numerous cameras. He states, “Safety is the number-one priority for our residents and we recently installed loading dock gates, and lock the revolving door at 9 p.m.”

Marquis hails from a security background and started at The Streeter primarily working the overnight shift. He says, “I’m glad to have moved to the day shift, and am always looking to better myself and learn new things.” His current interest is a class in residential leasing.

He starts a tour by saying, “It’s been chaotic recently, as the package room was being redone -- a lot of extra commotion.” The tour of the amenity floor includes a gym, basketball court, pool, spa, library, business center, and party room complete with billiards and foosball.

Marquis was born in Chicago and still lives here. In his spare time, he appreciates both hanging out with his friends and video games. “I’m working on traveling more, with a trip in the works to Costa Rica.”

He’s a huge sports fan, and his favorite NFL team is the Philadelphia Eagles. “I got into the Eagles during Terrell Owens’ time with the team, and remain a huge fan.” Marquis also enjoyed NBA games when LeBron James was with the Los Angeles Lakers.

“What I like about this building is that you meet people from all walks of life.” He pauses to accept a gift from a resident--it’s a sandwich. “People are good to me here, and one resident recently gave me tickets to an upcoming Chicago Bears game.”

Residents give Marquis gifts because his presence is obviously a gift to everyone at The Streeter.
