The NASCAR Chicago Street Race is just about a month away and pre-race street closures and preparations are set to begin June 10.
According to a statement from the city, the course construction will now take 19 days, a reduction from 25 days last year, thanks to lessons learned from the 2023 race. Nevertheless, major street closures and parking limitations will start on June 10.
Grant Park pre-race activities will commence on Monday, June 10, with Ida B. Wells Dr. closing from Michigan Ave. to Columbus Dr. Limited parking restrictions along southbound Columbus Dr. between Jackson Dr. and Balbo Dr. will also be in place. Additional temporary road closures and lane restrictions will take place on June 19-20 and June 26-27 to facilitate the building of viewing areas and pedestrian pathways.
Chicago city officials and NASCAR representatives are working to reduce the impact of these traffic disruptions, ensuring that businesses and residences remain accessible during the course set up, race weekend, and dismantling.
Residents can access comprehensive information, including community brochures, maps, street closure details, parking restrictions, and additional information by visiting the Chicago Street Race official site.
During the event, the Chicago Park District will work to maintain public access to Grant Park, with more than 50% of the park still open to the public. Attractions such as Buckingham Fountain, Butler Field, and Lower Hutchinson Field will be accessible with minimal limitations. Additionally, NASCAR will offer free festival activities in Butler Field during the race week, allowing visitors to enjoy the event without purchasing a ticket.
