The longtime Northbrook home of Merle and Harold Reskin is on the market for $7 million, a price that would set a new high for the village if it sells near asking, according toCrain’s Chicago Business. The 13,600-square-foot house sits on 6.6 acres on Voltz Road and was listed privately on Aug. 20, The Real Deal confirmed.

High price in a quiet enclave

The asking price tops Northbrook’s current record by more than $2.5 million, Crain’s noted. The highest known sale in the suburb was a $4.35 million Braeside Lane home sold in 2025, in the same country-estate section of town, the report added.

According to Crain’s, the four-bedroom house was built in 1979 and has country French styling, including steep wood-shingled roofs, a turret, stone and half-timbered walls. The listing says the home “will require extensive updating,” but it also includes a two-story library, a wine cellar, grand fireplaces, European architectural detail, a pool, a hot tub and a tennis court.

A home tied to Chicago history

Harold Reskin was known as the founding developer of Glendale Heights, The RealDeal noted. He and his father, Charles, began Midland Enterprises in the 1950s and later helped build homes and community assets on land that became the suburb, according to the source.

Merle Reskin was a Chicago native and former Broadway performer who appeared in the original 1949 production of “South Pacific,” per Crain’s. The couple married in 1955 and later made a major gift to DePaul University, which renamed the Blackstone Theatre the Merle Reskin Theatre in 1992, the report added.

The theater name returned to the headlines in April, when DePaul announced it would close the Merle Reskin Theatre because of financial stress, said Crain’s. The Northbrook house, meanwhile, remains a private listing with no public photos.
