Boosting Illinois' economy

"Through competitive incentive programs, workforce development, and our state's robust business development efforts, Illinois has been supporting businesses that create jobs and invest back into their communities," said Governor JB Pritzker in the announcement.

Jel Sert's expansion highlights Illinois' commitment to economic growth, with the state leveraging the Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) tax credit to foster favorable business conditions. DCEO Director Kristin Richards noted during the announcement that this project underscores the successful impact of the EDGE tax credit in promoting business expansion.

A legacy of growth

Founded in 1926, Jel Sert has deep roots in Illinois and is now a leading name in North America's food and beverage manufacturing industry. As Jel Sert Company President Ken Wegner stated in the press release, "Ninety-nine years after my grandparents founded Jel Sert, this more than $10 million expansion drives us into the next century of innovation." By increasing production capacities, Jel Sert aims to meet rising consumer demand while maintaining its legacy as a premier employer in the Chicagoland area.

The state's favorable environment for food processing businesses further strengthens Jel Sert's growth trajectory. Illinois houses other renowned companies like Kraft Heinz, Wrigley, and Mondelez, all benefitting from the region's top-notch infrastructure and skilled workforce, the press release confirms. Senator Karina Villa and Representative Maura Hirschauer both praised Jel Sert's strategic expansion in the announcement, emphasizing its role in boosting local economies and Illinois' workforce.

The expansion is a testament to Illinois' supportive business environment, enabling companies like Jel Sert to flourish and contribute significantly to the state's economic fabric.
