Chicago’s beloved festival for pizza lovers is back this summer—better and more refined than ever. Pizza City Fest 2025 returns to the city Friday, August 22, through Sunday, August 24, transforming 430 N. Rush St. into a pizza lover’s paradise. According to the event’s website, after showcasing 40 local artisan pizzerias over two days in its inaugural edition, this year’s Chicago edition will feature 14 pizza makers per day, along with enhanced programming and guest flow.

The venue will blend outdoor tasting and indoor learning: guests can stroll under open skies to sample fresh pies at vendor stalls, while those seeking culinary insight can head indoors to attend seminars and panel discussions. Event organizers state on the website that attendees can enjoy shaded seating outdoors, with VIP guests lounging in cooler, more comfortable VIP areas with extra amenities and early entry.

For those looking for even more immersion, the festival offers a curated guided tour with what organizers call “Pizza City doughcents” that will lead pizza aficionados by bus or foot through four distinct pizza styles while exploring Chicago’s culinary storytellers up close, according to the website.

The lineup will feature top pizza joints like those listed below, including several dessert options:

  • Robert’s Pizza & Dough Co. — Streeterville
  • Alla Vita — Fulton River District
  • Labriola — Streeterville
  • Pizza Matta — Logan Square
  • Pazza Pizza — Old Town
  • Capriccio — Lincoln Square
  • Pompei — University Village/Little Italy
  • Levain Bakery — West Loop & River North
  • Zarlengo’s Italian Ice — Chicago Heights
  • Vero Gelato — Elmwood Park

In anticipation of the 2025 return, one local’s online reflection of the 2023 event revealed widespread frustrations, serving as a cautionary reminder that improvements are crucial. According to Eater’s coverage of Pizza City Fest 2023, attendees referred to that year’s debut as a mini-Fyre Festival, citing long waits caused by oven power failures and overcrowded lines. The organizer, Steve Dolinsky, reportedly issued apologies and offered VIP passes for the following day, promising a better-planned return.

The upcoming festival signals a commitment to both celebrating Chicago’s diverse pizza scene and learning from past stumbles. With a pared-down vendor count each day, more organized guest spaces, and layered experiences via seminars and immersive tours, this year’s Pizza City Fest promises to be a balanced blend of flavor and functionality.

Whether you're a dedicated dough devotee or casual fan, Pizza City Fest 2025 aims to combine the celebration of artisan pies with streamlined logistics and expert insight—making it a can’t-miss slice of Chicago’s summer scene.
