On Wednesday, November 13, Tacombi’s Wicker Park location will feature four award-winning tacos from the world’s first Michelin-starred taqueria, El Califa de Leon. For one night only, the Wicker Park location will showcase three beef tacos and one pork taco: the Bistek, Costilla, Gaonera, and Chuleta. Two of the family-owned restaurant’s famous salsas and freshly-made tortillas will also be provided. El Califa de Leon Owner Mario Hernandez Alonso will be present during the launch event to serve his specially crafted salsa to guests.

This exclusive food pop-up will continue to give Chicagoans an authentic taste of the famed Mexico City taqueria over the next two weeks in a limited capacity. Starting on Thursday, November 14, two of the tacos will be available at both the Wicker Park and Fulton Market Tacombi locations through Thanksgiving Day.

“We are honored to partner with El Califa de Leon and share their tradition with our guests across Tacombi,” Tacombi Founder Dario Wolos said in a press release. Wolos and Alonso worked closely together during a trip to Mexico City to craft the idea of a collaboration between their two restaurants.

According to the same press release, this collaboration will mark the first time the Michelin-starred tacos make an appearance in the US. El Califa de Leon—which opened in 1968—made culinary history when it received its one star upon the guide announcing its inaugural Mexico rankings.

Guests can purchase all four tacos for $22 at the Wicker Park location only, or individually for between $6-$7 each.
