Smyth, the Michelin-starred West Loop fine-dining destination helmed by chefs John Shields and Karen Urie Shields, will host a rare one-night collaboration with New York City’s Atomix and its acclaimed chef-owner, Junghyun Park, on Sunday, June 15. Atomix, currently ranked No. 6 on the 2024 list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, will join forces with Smyth to present an exclusive multi-course tasting menu that unites Korean tradition with seasonal North American produce and seafood.
“Chef Junghyun Park is one of my dear friends and one of my favorite chefs in the world. I’m thrilled to be able to collaborate with him on this truly special evening,” said Chef John Shields in a press release. “I’m excited to pair the sensibilities between our cuisines, and I’m looking forward to what we’ll create together using our ingredients at the peak of their quality.”

Guests will experience the spirit of Atomix’s deep exploration of Korean techniques, particularly its celebrated fermentations, alongside Smyth’s commitment to local farmers, fishermen, and purveyors. Park, who was born and raised in Seoul, leads Atomix and its two-star sister restaurant Atoboy, as well as Naro and Seoul Salon. According to the press release, his accolades include a 2018 three-star New York Times review for Atomix, a 2019 Food & Wine Best New Chef honor, the Art of Hospitality Award from The World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2022, and the 2023 James Beard Award for Best Chef: New York State.
Dinner on Sunday will be hosted at Smyth’s address at 177 N. Ada St., Chicago, IL 60607. Seating is extremely limited; reservations for the $420-per-person menu, exclusive of beverages, service charge, tax, and gratuity, can be made via Tock. This collaboration promises a singular opportunity to taste two of America’s most lauded kitchens in one evening.
