A popular fried chicken chain from the East Coast has arrived in Illinois as Zaxby's opened its first Illinois location last week in the Chicago suburb of Plainfield. The new store promises a taste of southern hospitality to Midwest diners.

Per WGN, the restaurant opened its doors on Monday, Jan. 19, at 13429 Illinois Rte 59. The 2,450-square-foot eatery replaces the former Slim Chickens site. Remodeling wrapped up just in time for the launch, said village officials.

Zaxby's is originally a Georgia-based chain known for menu staples such as Chicken Fingerz, salads, wings, toasts, and signature sauces.

A Chicago native—who owns and operates the Plainfield Zaxby's, and also runs four locations in the Kansas City area—said, "Bringing the first Zaxby's to the Chicagoland area is an incredible milestone, and I am thrilled to join the Plainfield community," as reported by WGN.

According to NBC News, Zaxby’s announced earlier this year that it plans to open several locations throughout Illinois, including in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs

Zaxby's first Illinois debut marks a big step for the chain. Local excitement builds around the chicken fingers and sauces, with more locations to follow soon.
