Beloved Chicago ice cream and fast food joint The Freeze, which closed in 2023, is making a comeback!

Brendan Sodikoff, founder and CEO of Hogsalt Hospitality which owns Au Cheval and Small Cheval, has confirmed that his team is working to combine Small Cheval's signature burgers with The Freeze's legendary soft serve, according to Eater Chicago.

The restoration of The Freeze will include the opening of the ninth Small Cheval location, known for its burgers, fries, and milkshakes. The new joint venture aims to preserve the character and vibe of The Freeze while also offering an expanded kitchen, patio, and more food items.

According to Block Club Chicago, the project could be completed as soon as later this year, though an exact timeline has not been provided. The renovated ice cream stand will reportedly use the same soft-serve machines as The Freeze and will be open year-round, unlike the original location which only operated during warmer months. The new dining destination will be located at The Freeze's original location at 2815 W Armitage Avenue.
