Lardon, a salumeria café, kicks off its second annual gourmet sandwich fundraiser. The Lardon team, Executive Chef Chris Thompson and Partner Steve Lewis are introducing a monthly all-star lineup of five chefs. Partial proceeds of the specialty sandwiches will sponsor a youth camper for one week at Yes, Chef! Culinary Camp by Foundation for the Culinary Arts.
Every month from June through October, guest chefs will serve interpretations of the perfect summer sandwich. Each tasty treat will include fresh seasonal flavors along with stacks of meat.
"Is there anything better than a really great sandwich, especially in the summer?" says Thompson. "For year two of this series, we've brought in an incredible lineup of folks who are ready to throw down super fun collabs of flavors and creative inspirations, including a 'triple' porchetta sandwich, an Asian-inspired dip sandwich with shio broth, Latin American-inspired sammies and more…all for a great cause!" This year's featured chefs at Lardon will include Anthony Scardino, Professor Pizza, in June followed by Stephen Sandoval, Entre Sueños, in July; Dylan Patel, avec, in August; Katie Dong, Monster Ramen, in September; and John Manion, El Che, in October.
Based on sales of the sandwiches, one fortunate CPS student will be able to attend Yes, Chef! Culinary Camp's week-long summer camp. The charity's overall mission is to provide transferable life skills for economically disadvantaged high school students. Yes, Chef! serves the west and south side of Chicago with a participant demographic of 65% female and 91% Black, Hispanic, and Latinx. The CPS schools must have a 68% or higher student demographic from low-income households.
Lardon is located in Logan Square at 2200 North California Ave., near the California Blue Line stop. It was recently recognized in 2022 by MICHELIN with a Bib Gourmand Award. For more information, please visit lardonchicago.com
