This summer, Chicago Star Media will launch the inaugural "Rising from the Ashes: Chicago's Lit" event, July 30-Aug. 8, 2021, a movement celebrating the revival of businesses, nonprofits, cultural institutions and other community organizations in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Just as the city's recovery from the Great Chicago Fire more than a century ago ushered in a new era of growth and prosperity, Chicago aims to rebuild and rise again stronger than ever from the unique challenges of this past year.
Throughout this 10-day period, cultural institutions and businesses throughout downtown Chicago will hold special events and offer discounts and deals to celebrate the full reopening of Chicago after the COVID-19 pandemic. Residents and visitors are encouraged to wear light-up accessories during the evening on the last Saturday of July as a way to join in with the festivities. More details will be announced at chicagostarmedia.com/chicago-lit in the weeks to come.
Organizations taking part in "Rising from the Ashes: Chicago's Lit" will be featured in a special Fire Festival guide showcasing each participant's unique offerings. This guide will be included in the August issue of the Chicago Star, which is distributed at hundreds of locations throughout Streeterville, the Loop, River North, River West, Gold Coast, West Loop and South Loop. Participation fees range from $500 for businesses with 10 or fewer employees and $1,000 for larger organizations and includes a subscription to Chicago Star and Star Club membership.
Additionally, members of Chicago Star Media’s Star Club will receive exclusive access to "Rising from the Ashes: Chicago's Lit" events, as well as the new City Buzz feature highlighting all the fun and news happening in and around the city; a Chicago Star subscription (online and print); networking opportunities at unique events; a surprise thank-you gift and last but certainly not least, the opportunity to support local journalism. Membership is $350 annually for individuals, $500 for organizations with fewer than 10 employees, $1,000 for larger organizations and $75 for students. More details about this new program are available online at chicagostarmedia.com/starclub.
‘Rising from the Ashes: Chicago's Lit’ builds on the success of Streeterville Week, which encouraged Chicagoans to support more than three dozen participating local businesses in 2021.
Chicago Star Media is a news organization based out of downtown Chicago. Its flagship newspaper, the Chicago Star, launched this spring with a focus on positive, uplifting news.
