Freezing rain leads to dangerous and icy conditions across Chicago

Chicago is under a winter weather advisory after freezing rain caused icy accumulations late Monday night into Tuesday, creating treacherous travel conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) has cautioned drivers and pedestrians, stating that roads and untreated sidewalks are ice-covered.

“If your area has not been treated, it will be treacherous and dangerous this morning," said NBC 5 Meteorologist Alicia Roman. NBC reported multiple spin-outs and slide-offs, and over 100 flight cancellations were reported at O'Hare and Midway International Airports.

Scattered showers are predicted for the afternoon, followed by fog into Wednesday. The NWS predict the rain will clear by Tuesday evening, but forecasts a dreary and cloudy end to the week. Chicago's high temperature on Tuesday is 36 degrees, slightly above average for this time of year.
