Tuesday’s snow storm fell flat, but another system is taking shape that could bring significant snowfall and arctic air to the Chicago region.

According to a statement from the National Weather Service, a winter storm watch is in effect beginning Friday through Saturday morning for Cook County and the surrounding Chicago suburbs.

The weather service notes that heavy and blowing snow is possible, with potential accumulations surpassing six inches. Low visibility could create dangerous travel conditions for drivers.

Following the storm, temperatures will plunge below freezing on Saturday and remain in the single digits into next week. Monday could see temperatures as low as -4 according to the National Weather Service.
