Heavy rains have led to flooding and shutdowns in parts of South Florida, causing Gov. Ron DeSantis to announce a state of emergency in Broward, Collier, Lee, Miami-Dade, and Sarasota counties on Wednesday. According to CBS, Police and fire crews conducted at least 40 rescues in portions of the Miami metro area due to intense flooding.
On Thursday, all summer sessions at public schools in Broward County were closed, according to CBS along with county courts, city offices, and some regional universities. Public transportation services also faced disruptions, with Tri Rail reportedly suspending some service lines.
