Daniel Kyri is making a comeback to “Chicago Fire” for a short time in Season 14, even though he left the show after Season 13. According to Deadline, the actor shared exciting news on his Instagram Story by posting a selfie with his co-stars Jocelyn Hudon and Hanako Greensmith, writing "Back! For a limited time only" with a peace sign emoji.
He also shared another behind-the-scenes photo where he was wearing his firefighter gear alongside cast members David Eigenberg, Christian Stolte, Miranda Rae Mayo, and new actor Brandon Larracuente. NBC has not given any additional comments about this return, and Deadline reports that they have reached out to Kyri's representatives for more details. The actor had been part of the “Chicago Fire” family since he started as a recurring character named Darren Ritter, who later became a well-respected firefighter. His recent storylines focused on his relationship with Officer Dwayne Monroe, played by Samuel B. Jackson, before his departure from the main cast.
Yahoo Entertainment reveals that fans are excited about Daniel Kyri's return because many felt his character Ritter deserved a better send-off than what happened in Season 13. The showrunner Andrea Newman had previously promised that both Ritter and fellow departing character Carver would get "big endings" that they deserved. However, the Season 13 finale only showed Carver's departure when he decided to join the Denver Fire Department, while Ritter's exit was not explained or shown on screen.
Yahoo reports that this left many viewers disappointed because there was no clear indication of why Ritter would be leaving Firehouse 51. The return gives the show a chance to provide a proper goodbye for the beloved character. Newman had explained that the show would experience many changes with people being cut and moved around in the Chicago Fire Department. She mentioned that next season would bring both hellos and goodbyes, with nobody being safe from the upcoming shakeups that would affect the entire team.

US Magazine confirms that Daniel Kyri will return for a limited time in season 14 after his shocking exit from the series. The magazine notes that Kyri's departure was part of budget cuts that affected Chicago Fire, as the show asked cast members to take on Illinois residency, and some had to give up their annual pay raises.
His return comes at a time when the show is going through several cast changes, with Jake Lockett also not returning as a series regular after playing Sam Carver since 2022. According to US Magazine, showrunner Andrea Newman explained that the next season will show how everything gets shaken up when new mandates come down from the top. She warned that there would be a lot of turnover and craziness in the Chicago Fire Department, with people being cut and moved around
