Melania Trump unveils 2025 White House Christmas decorations

The White House has been decorated for the Christmas season with a heartwarming theme. First Lady Melania Trump chose "Home is Where the Heart Is" as this year's special message, according to Axios. The decorations are much more traditional compared to her first time as First Lady, when she used bold red trees.

This year's design is classic and warm, featuring thousands of sparkling details throughout the building. The theme celebrates American values and family traditions that bring people together during the holidays. Although the East Wing was torn down for construction, Axios reports that the decorations still include special touches like "Be Best" ornaments, a unique Lego portrait of President Trump, and more than 10,000 colorful butterflies placed throughout the rooms.

Honoring America's heroes and history

The official Christmas tree stands proudly in the Blue Room with a meaningful purpose. ABC News explains that this year's tree honors Gold Star families who lost loved ones during military service. The tree normally would have been in the East Wing, but since that building was demolished in October for a new ballroom project, the tree was moved.

The East Room features patriotic red, white and blue decorations with golden eagle tree toppers, ABC News notes, celebrating America's upcoming 250th birthday in 2026. The decorations include ornaments showing each state's official bird and flower. The First Lady personally selected every decoration detail, with planning starting many months before the holiday season arrived.

Massive effort brings holiday magic

A team of volunteer decorators worked hard to transform the White House into a winter wonderland. AP News reports that the 18-and-a-half-foot-tall official tree came from Korsons Tree Farms in Michigan. The white fir tree arrived at the North Portico in a special carriage pulled by two Clydesdale horses named Logan and Ben.

The decorating effort used 75 wreaths, 51 Christmas trees, over 700 feet of garland, and more than 2,000 strands of lights. Workers also used over 25,000 feet of ribbon, 2,800 gold stars, and 120 pounds of gingerbread, as mentioned by AP News. Tens of thousands of visitors will tour the White House this month to see the spectacular holiday displays.
