Netflix has started filming its new “Pride and Prejudice” series in the United Kingdom and revealed the first photos of the cast, according to Variety. The streaming giant announced a strong lineup of actors joining the six-part limited series based on Jane Austen's famous 1813 novel. Emma Corrin will play Elizabeth Bennet, the main character, while Jack Lowden takes on the role of Mr. Darcy and Olivia Colman stars as Mrs. Bennet.
The show promises to be a faithful adaptation of Austen's beloved story about love, family, and social class in early 19th-century England. Variety reports that the series is being directed by Euros Lyn, who previously worked on Heartstopper, and written by Dolly Alderton. The production team includes several executive producers working with Lookout Point, a well-known production company. Lisa Osborne will serve as the main producer for this highly anticipated project that aims to bring the classic romance to modern audiences.
The supporting cast includes many talented actors in key roles that fans of the book will recognize, as detailed by Deadline. Rufus Sewell, known for his work in The Diplomat, will play the wise Mr. Bennet, father of the five Bennet sisters. Freya Mavor from Industry takes on Jane Bennet, Elizabeth's gentle older sister, while Rhea Norwood from Heartstopper will portray the youngest sister, Lydia Bennet.
Two newcomers, Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery, will make their acting debuts as Mary and Kitty Bennet, respectively. The male characters include Jamie Demetriou as the annoying Mr. Collins, Daryl McCormack as the charming Mr. Bingley, and Louis Partridge as the troublesome Mr. Wickham. Deadline also mentions that Fiona Shaw will play the intimidating Lady Catherine de Bourg, while Siena Kelly takes on Caroline Bingley. The cast list shows Netflix's commitment to finding the right actors for each important character in Austen's story.

Netflix released the first official photo showing Mrs. Bennet with all five of her daughters, creating excitement among fans waiting for this adaptation, Mashable notes. The image gives viewers their first look at how the characters will appear in the series, with Olivia Colman leading the group as the mother desperate to marry off her daughters. Writer Dolly Alderton expressed her excitement about working on the project, saying she feels lucky to retell this wonderful story for a new generation.
Mashable explains that Alderton believes Pride and Prejudice serves as the blueprint for romantic comedy, making it important to find both familiar and fresh ways to bring the beloved book to life. Jack Lowden, who plays Mr. Darcy, has mentioned his enthusiasm about breaking barriers by being a red-haired version of the traditionally dark-haired character. The series does not yet have an official release date, but Netflix describes it as a faithful, classic adaptation that will honor Austen's original work while appealing to today's viewers.
