Nvidia, SK Hynix strike AI deals in South Korea

Nvidia announced a series of deals in South Korea on Monday with major technology companies, including SK Hynix, SK Telecom, Naver and Doosan Group, as the chipmaker works to strengthen its AI infrastructure network and secure key memory supplies for its products, according to Reuters. The companies did not disclose the value of the agreements, Reuters reported.

The deals came during a visit by Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang, who has spent days meeting business leaders in South Korea, Reuters confirmed. His trip included dinners with top executives and meetings aimed at expanding Nvidia’s role in the country’s fast-growing AI sector.

Memory chips, cloud services and robotics

Per the Wall Street Journal, SK Telecom said it is working with Nvidia on its first gigawatt-scale AI cloud services in South Korea, with plans to expand into other parts of Asia. The project reportedly will use Nvidia’s platform and graphics processing units with SK Telecom’s networks and data centers to create AI factories, with the first one expected in 2027.

SK Hynix also announced a multiyear technology agreement with Nvidia to advance next-generation memory chips and speed up semiconductor design and manufacturing, the Wall Street Journal reported. Huang said SK Hynix will continue to be Nvidia’s largest memory partner, according to the report.

Naver said it will work with Nvidia to build AI factories and pursue AI markets in Europe, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region, the Wall Street Journal confirmed. Huang also met with leaders from LG and Hyundai to discuss future AI opportunities, including robotics and mobility.

Hyundai Motor and its affiliate Boston Dynamics are among the companies positioning themselves for physical AI growth, with Boston Dynamics planning to deploy its Atlas humanoid robots at auto plants from 2028, the Wall Street Journal reported. South Korea has also pushed ahead with a national AI strategy, including a large deployment of advanced Nvidia GPUs.
