Pilot makes bold twist to dodge B‑52 bomber, lands SkyWest jet safely

A SkyWest flight narrowly avoided a potential midair disaster on Friday, when the pilot executed an aggressive maneuver to steer clear of a B-52 bomber that unexpectedly entered its flight path near Minot, North Dakota. According to The Washington Post, the incident triggered an investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The FAA has initiated an investigation to determine why the flight was not informed of the bomber's presence in their airspace. Meanwhile, the Air Force is reviewing the circumstances of the B-52’s participation in a flyover, as reported by The Washington Post. The military has not yet revealed details regarding the position or altitude of its aircraft during the incident.

As per reports, SkyWest Flight 3788 was en route from Minneapolis to Minot when it got clearance to land. However, the captain had to perform a go-around maneuver upon noticing the B-52 bomber, which was conducting a flyover for the North Dakota State Fair, according to The Guardian.

A video posted on social media showed the bemused pilot explaining his decision to the passengers, apologizing for “the aggressive maneuver.” “Nobody told us about the other aircraft,” he clarified, NBC News stated, which elicited applause from relieved passengers after his announcement. Monica Green, a passenger, described the atmosphere as “weirdly calm,” NBC News reported.

Luckily, no passengers were injured, and SkyWest Flight 3788 landed safely at Minot. The airline has vowed to cooperate fully with the investigation to prevent such incidents from recurring.
