Millions of Americans rely on the post office for mail and packages, but on Presidents’ Day, which is upcoming on Monday, Feb. 16, the United States Post Office (USPS) will close all locations nationwide, according to NJ.com. Regular services halt for the day.
Presidents’ Day marks the third Monday in February. It honors George Washington and all U.S. presidents, as reported by USA Today, who explained how the holiday began in 1879 as Washington's Birthday.
Federal offices and banks shut down
Federal offices will be closed on Presidents’ Day, per the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. This includes courts, agencies and the U.S. Postal Service, according to USA Today. Stock markets and banks will also be closed.
No regular mail delivery occurs on Monday, Feb. 16, although Priority Mail Express runs as an exception, states NJ.com. Services will resume as normal on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
Retailers, grocery stores and pharmacies may limit hours. Shoppers should check ahead for holiday closures.

Kiosks, private carriers step in for mail delivery
USPS urges use of 2,600 kiosks in post office lobbies, which they say offer 24/7 access, according to NJ.com. Services include printing postage for Priority Mail, buying stamps and tracking packages.
Private options will help fill the gap while USPS is closed. FedEx runs most services, though FedEx Express will follow a modified schedule. FedEx Freight and Logistics will continue to operate normally.
Additionally, UPS will keep Express Critical pickup and delivery going. UPS stores remain open as well, with some ground services adding a day in transit.
Amazon delivers on most federal holidays, skipping only Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day, according to NJ.com. Senders can use these for urgent needs on Presidents’ Day.
Plan shipments early to avoid delays. Check carrier sites for exact schedules.
