Severe storms cause damage and power outages around Chicagoland

Severe thunderstorms moved through Chicago Monday night, causing power outages and damages across the region. The storms brought tornado warnings and torrential rains to Chicago and the suburbs.

According to WGN, the National Weather Service recorded wind speeds as high as 75 mph at its outpost in suburban Romeoville last night. A 44 year-old woman in Northwest Indiana reportedly died after a tree fell onto a home.

By Tuesday afternoon more than 193,000 customers were without power throughout Illinois, according to PowerOutage.us.
