According to a statement, the $10 million investment will increase space for packaging and bakery operations while creating 50 local jobs.
The new 42,000-square-foot expansion brings the Northwest Side facility to 104,000 square feet, boosting Eli's potential for increased bakery operations, additional production and packaging lines, and warehousing.
The expansion almost doubles the size of its bakery and marks the company's first expansion in nearly 30 years. The expanded facility also houses Eli's Corporate Offices and the Eli's Cheesecake Bakery Café, which is open to the public.
Eli's Cheesecake, a family-owned business and a well-known Chicago staple, has now become one of the country's largest specialty cheesecake and dessert companies.The additional space will allow for the expansion of dessert selections and create more jobs in the state.
"Eli's Cheesecake is an iconic Illinois brand known across the globe and the state is proud to support their expansion," said DCEO Director Kristin Richards, according to the statement. "Eli's expansion is a prime example of Illinois' thriving food production industry and commitment to partnering with local institutions to grow and train our workforce."
