Choose Chicago is rolling out a new global marketing effort inviting 2026 FIFA World Cup travelers to “kick back” in a city that’s always moving and always memorable. With more than five million fans expected to attend the tournament and many planning multi-city itineraries, the organization aims to position Chicago as an essential stop for international visitors exploring North America during the event.

“While Chicago is not an official World Cup host city, our team has developed a strong strategy to ensure our city and our partners reap the economic benefits of the World Cup experience,” said Kristen Reynolds, President and CEO of Choose Chicago, in a press release. She noted that the campaign is designed to draw fans passing through the region or seeking a break from the congestion of host cities. Thanks to its central location, easy access through Midway and O’Hare, and an array of world-class attractions, Chicago is well placed to welcome travelers looking to extend their trips or enjoy the excitement from a relaxed distance.

Research from global travel partners shows that many European visitors intend to spend up to two weeks in the United States during the tournament and are eager to explore “halo cities” within reach of official venues. These travelers are looking for simplicity, inspiration, curated itineraries, cultural experiences and local insights that offer more than match-day action.

Though Chicago won’t host matches, the city’s summer 2026 calendar will be packed with concerts, festivals, exhibitions and celebrations, making it an ideal stop between games. Convenient flights from nearby host cities such as Kansas City and Toronto further reinforce Chicago’s appeal as an accessible and energizing add-on destination.

Choose Chicago has developed a suite of resources under the “Kick Back in Chicago” banner, offering itineraries tailored by interest, neighborhood guides, travel tips, and updates on major 2026 events scheduled during the tournament. The aim is to create a one-stop hub for visitors seeking the city’s legendary hospitality.
