Chicago Children's Theatre presents beloved Beatrix Potter holiday party

Chicago Children's Theatre presents “The Beatrix Potter Holiday Party” from Dec. 6-28,  marking a decade of this cherished tradition. According to Chicago Children's Theatre, this interactive puppet show features four beloved animal tales brought to life through vintage trunks and original music. 

Three storytellers in period costumes open hidden compartments and pull levers while weaving Potter's classic narration with moments where children can participate. Chicago Children's Theatre notes that a musician accompanies the performance, playing guitar, banjo, cello, and toy piano. After the 75-minute show, families gather in the lobby for a festive party complete with puppets, photo opportunities, and holiday treats.

Interactive experience perfect for young theatergoers

The show creates a magical introduction to live theater for Chicago's youngest audiences. Choose Chicago reports that storytellers recruit young watchers to join the adventure through gentle interactive moments during the performance. The production features a brand-new tale called “The Tale of Pickles and Ginger” alongside “The Tale of Tom Kitten,” “The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin,” and “The Tale of Peter Rabbit.”

The festive spread includes special holiday treats that bring Chicago families together. Performances take place at Chicago Children's Theatre, at 100 S. Racine Ave. in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood. Chicago Parent reports that shows run Saturdays and Sundays at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m., with additional weekday performances on Wednesdays through Fridays at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Tickets vary in price, with lap seat tickets available for children 18 months and under at $12.75.

Chicago Parent reports that the show is best suited for ages up to 8 and runs 75 minutes, including the post-show party. Families should purchase tickets early, as many performances sell out quickly during this popular annual tradition.
