Chicago’s top fall races return: Half Marathon, Bank of America Marathon & Turkey Trot

The fall racing season in Chicago officially starts on Sunday, Sept. 27, with the 29th annual Life Time Chicago Half Marathon and 5K, a race that offers runners exclusive access to Lake Shore Drive, historic South Side neighborhoods, and skyline views. The event also includes the Kids Run Chicago for children ages 2 to 12, along with a pre-race party featuring live music and entertainment.

The half marathon and Kids Run are sold out, but runners can still gain a spot through official charity partners, according to the race organizers. The 5K remains available, giving participants another way to join one of the city’s signature running events.

The Marathon and Turkey Trot

On Sunday, Oct. 11, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon returns for its 48th running, bringing thousands of runners from more than 100 countries and all 50 states, according to the website. The course runs through 29 neighborhoods, and about 1.7 million spectators are expected to line the streets as 55,000 runners make their way from the start line to Columbus Drive.

The marathon also raises money for charitable causes and generates significant economic impact for Chicago, the organizers confirmed. The race has become one of the city’s best-known global sports events and a major test for elite runners, first-timers, and charity participants alike.

Chicago’s racing calendar closes with the 48th annual Life Time Turkey Trot Chicago on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26. The 5K and 8K courses in Lincoln Park come with a kids’ run and a Turkey Day Tailgate with food, music and fall festivities.

Presented by NOBULL and benefiting the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the Turkey Trot mixes a family tradition with a charitable cause. It gives runners and walkers a chance to start Thanksgiving morning with a race and a full holiday atmosphere.
