As Thanksgiving approaches, there is so much the holiday has to offer for Chicagoans across the city: time spent with family, parades, relaxation, football, and of course the all-mighty Thanksgiving dinner. However, there is one tradition that remains as popular as it is polarizing, and that is the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot.
Whether beloved or bemoaned, the Turkey Trot has become a mainstay celebration of community and giving during the Thanksgiving season, with countless local neighborhoods and suburbs hosting their own. With so many across the city to choose from, it can be difficult to decide which to attend, so here are a few of our favorites we think you should check out this Thanksgiving weekend!
Lifetime Chicago Turkey Trot
A popular annual downtown Chicago race in support of the Greater Chicago Food Depository that also hosts a pre- and post-race tailgate for attendees.

Lincolnwood Turkey Trot
A longstanding neighborhood race through the idyllic Lincolnwood Village. The race is a chip-timed, CARA-certified event known for its flat, fast course. Also, don’t miss out on the famed “Drumstick Dash” for children six and under.

North Shore Turkey Trot
One of the larger suburban events, come out to Highland Park ahead of the big feast for some fun with the family, followed by snacks and drinks at the post-race party.

Chi Town Turkey Trot
The official downtown Turkey trot shoots off from Grant Park, with the course running along scenic Lake Michigan. Each runner also receives a meal and a donut at the finish line!

Edison Park Turkey Trot
This neighborhood trot has become very popular in recent years, with over 5500 attendees expected this Thanksgiving, according to race organizers. The event this year will be supporting three different charities: the Chicago Police Memorial Fund, Ignite the Spirit, and Salute Inc.
