Chicago law enforcement are amping up security precautions ahead of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), releasing a statement via Twitter/X on Monday ensuring that they plan to strictly monitor the event and ensure safety for all.
The announcement comes in the wake of heightened safety concerns following the attempted assassination of former president Donald Trump on July, 13, at a rally in Butler, Pa, according to multiple reports.
In the wake of the assassination attempt, there are concerns about the potential for violence at the DNC in August. Protests and other disruptions are expected to impact the event, potentially posing an additional threat to public safety.
“We have been planning for the convention for more than a year to prepare for anything and everything,” read the police department’s statement. “... CPD will assess and adjust resources as necessary in real-time, based on intelligence and what we are seeing on the ground to protect the entire city.”
