A global Microsoft crash has caused numerous flights to be canceled or delayed at O'Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport Friday morning.

According to a report by CBS Chicago, the Chicago Department of Aviation confirmed more than 200 flights had been canceled at O'Hare and Midway, along with hundreds of other delays.

A United Airlines spokesperson told CBS that while some flights are now resuming, they anticipate schedule disruptions to persist throughout the day. The airline issued waivers to passengers who wish to alter their travel arrangements.

Other airlines including Delta and American Airlines have implemented mass cancellations and delays due to the outage.

The worldwide Microsoft outage was spurred by a technical issue at cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike, according to multiple reports. The outage has had ripple effects across the world, impacting banks, schools, emergency services, and government operations.

The crash comes at the height of summer travel season, and some experts have said it could be the "largest IT outage in history," according to CNN.
