Beginning Friday Metra will introduce an updated fare plan with increased ticket prices and new ticket packages.

Metra will eliminate its pandemic-era promotional rates, but new fare charges will remain lower than pre-pandemic levels, according to ABC7 Chicago.

"We're replacing the 10-ride ticket with a packet of five day passes, so essentially five round trips instead of 10 one-way fares," Metra spokesman Michael Gillis told ABC7.

According to the Metra site, ticket windows will be closed at all stations and vending machines will be added at the busiest stations.

The new fare plan and other changes come as Metra ridership continues to increase in the years since the pandemic.
