Ferrero North America has launched Nutella Peanut, the first new flavor in Nutella’s more than 60-year history, according to the New York Post. The spread blends Nutella’s familiar hazelnut-cocoa base with peanuts from Georgia, a press release from PR Newswire confirms, creating a new version aimed at fans who already mix the two tastes at home.

The launch follows months of teasing and social media buzz. Ferrero said the product keeps the brand’s creamy texture while adding a distinct peanut profile.

Made in Illinois, sold nationwide

Ferrero also said production has begun at its Franklin Park, Illinois, plant, a $75 million investment that created 50 jobs, PR Newswire notes. The company said the release is the brand’s first product made in the United States and expands its manufacturing footprint in Illinois.

Michael Lindsey, president and chief business officer of Ferrero North America, said, “Nutella Peanut and this new facility showcase Ferrero's dedicated and talented teams, commitment to growth in North America, and the company's ability to thoughtfully and effectively evolve brands that have been loved for generations,” according to PR Newswire. He added, “We're thrilled to see Nutella Peanut roll off the line right here in the U.S.”

The spread is available now at major retailers nationwide, including Walmart, Aldi, Amazon, Target, Kroger, Wegmans and others, the New York Post confirms. It comes in the familiar 13-ounce jar, now with a gold, peanut-colored label.

The company said the new flavor is intended for snacks, sandwiches and dipping.

Launch events and company plans

According to the New York Post, to mark the rollout, Nutella is hosting a pop-up event in New York City on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, at 372 Lafayette Street in NoHo. The event will include games, rewards and free samples, according to the company.

Ferrero said the Nutella Peanut launch is part of a broader push in North America that also includes a new Nutella Ice Cream Cone product. The company has continued to expand its U.S. operations through manufacturing, research and development, and agricultural sourcing.

Walmart’s Melody Richard said, “When our suppliers invest in U.S. manufacturing, the impact is real—more jobs, more opportunity, and stronger local economies,” according to PR Newswire.

Illinois Senate President Don Harmon stated in the announcement that the expansion shows why Illinois remains a strong place for advanced manufacturing.
