NVIDIA boosts buyback program by $150 billion in largest increase of its kind in history

NVIDIA announced in a press release Monday that its board approved an extra $150 billion for the company’s share repurchase program, bringing the remaining authorization to $235 billion. The company called it the largest increase of its kind in history, and said it expects to use the full amount through fiscal 2028.

In the statement, founder and CEO Jensen Huang said, “NVIDIA's growth is being driven by a once-in-a-generation platform shift to AI and accelerated computing,” and added, “Our cash generation gives us the capacity to invest in the technologies that advance this transformation and return capital to shareholders. This authorization reflects our confidence in the long-term opportunity ahead.”

AI growth drives capital return

The company said the larger buyback reflects the strength of its cash generation as demand for AI and accelerated computing continues to support the business. NVIDIA, based in Santa Clara, Calif., described itself as the world leader in AI and accelerated computing.

The new authorization comes as investors continue to weigh NVIDIA’s fast growth against its valuation. The company’s board signaled that it wants flexibility to return more money to shareholders while also keeping resources available for technology investments tied to the AI boom.
