The delay came as the Cubs opened a three-game series against the Giants, who are making their only visit to Wrigley Field this season. The game was set to feature Edward Cabrera, who had recently come off the injured list after dealing with a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand, against right-hander J.T. Ginn, the Sun-Times reported.
Teams arrive with different momentum
Chicago entered the series after a 7-6 walk-off win over the Athletics, a game in which the Cubs scored four runs in the ninth inning, CBS Sports confirmed. The victory continued a season marked by streaks for Chicago, which has had two 10-game winning runs and one 10-game skid.

According to CBS, San Francisco arrived after taking two straight games from the Brewers in Milwaukee. The Giants were finishing a three-city, 10-game trip, and they had been hitting well while struggling on the mound, the report noted. Their offense was batting .335 with nine home runs during that span, while the pitching staff carried a 7.69 ERA.
Friday’s matchup was also the opener of a three-game set in Chicago. The Cubs were listed as a favorite entering the game, with the over/under set high because the wind was expected to blow out.
CBS Sports andChicago Sun-Times reported the delay and the revised start time.
