Some quick hits on a five-topic potpourri:
1) The Milwaukee Brewers: Awesome baseball story. The low-budget team sweeps the high-budget team (Los Angeles Dodgers). Love it! I typically root against any team trying to “buy” a championship by overspending and trying to hoard all the superstars on one team. The Milwaukee fans have never been able to celebrate a World Series championship—now they are but one step away. Go Brew Crew.

2) Roller coasters: So sad to hear of the recent death of a man falling off a roller coaster. But sadly, I am not completely surprised. The “race to the top” of these thrill-seeking roller coasters has become somewhat out of control. I know each amusement park company is trying to outdo the other in coming up with the latest and greatest in danger-invoking rides, but at some point, we need to taper it down and get back to roller coasters that are still fun, just a bit safer.
3) Pope Leo: We wish you the best, my friend. Not just because you are from Chicago, but because you are a true advocate for kindness, tolerance, and compassion for all people of all colors and all cultures. And in this current troubling time? We need a huge helping of that! Get well soon, Pope Leo; we need you.

4) The Bears love story: Hallmark has made a tradition out of doing holiday-themed love stories featuring a theme from an NFL team. Airing this past weekend (Saturday, Oct. 17) our Chicago Bears have now made their entrance into this new tradition. Haven’t watched it yet—but it is recorded and will be viewed soon. Head coach Ben Johnson, Cole Kmet, Colston Loveland, as well as Bears greats from days gone by Dan Hampton and Mike Singletary all make cameos. Fortunately, the Hallmark love story didn’t affect their game prep, as the team looked really sharp in coming back from embarrassment against the Packers by soundly defeating the Atlanta Falcons, 31-23.
5) Political ads: Brutal. Old, tiring and repetitive. What a waste of money. That goes for the mailers and flyers too. Does anybody pay attention to this stuff anymore? The money spent on political campaigns in recent years is nearly obscene. Think whatone of our wonderful charitable organizations could do with all that money. The “no limits on campaign contributions” court ruling was one of the worst Supreme Court rulings ever.
