Former Illinois state Sen. Kirk Dillard and his wife, Stephanie, sold their six-bedroom, 5,295-square-foot Hinsdale home for $1.25 million on Wednesday, Sept. 30, as reported by the Chicago Tribune. According to the report, the couple listed the northwest Hinsdale property in June for slightly less than $1.3 million and found a buyer just seven weeks later. They paid $635,000 for the house in 2000, the Tribune confirmed.
Dillard, 71, said the move followed the completion of his children’s college years. “After 26 years and raising a family in the house, it was time to downsize now that our children have graduated college,” Dillard said, according to the Daily Herald.
The couple reportedly paid $950,000 in May for a three-bedroom, 3,007-square-foot townhome in Hinsdale, the Tribune noted. Dillard confirmed they remain in the village, moving across the railroad tracks from their former home.

The home was built in 1998, and the sold home included three-and-a-half bathrooms, two main-floor offices, custom kitchen cabinetry, high-end appliances, a breakfast room and a family room, both reports note. Additionally, the finished basement had a second full kitchen.
Some of the highlighted outdoor features included a paver-brick patio, a pergola, and an attached two-car garage. The property carried a $14,741 tax bill for the 2025 tax year, according to the Daily Herald.

Dillard said the neighborhood’s small cul-de-sac, nearby children and access to a highly rated grade school made the location attractive. “Excellent schools are a major factor in home values,” he told the Tribune.
According to reports, Dillard attended Hinsdale Central High School and went on to represent Illinois’ 24th Senate District from 1993 through 2014. He also served as chief of staff to Gov. Jim Edgar during Edgar’s first term and ran in Republican gubernatorial primaries in 2010 and 2014, the Tribune confirmed.
