A Marriott Residence Inn is set to open at the site of the former Conrad Hotel building in River North on April 30. According to a report by Crain’s, the hotel will feature 289 rooms, a rooftop bar, and two restaurants.
Local real estate developers the Prime Group have teamed up with Wanxiang American Real Estate Group to spearhead the project. The developers intend to overhaul the existing building, which has sat vacant since the Conrad Hotel closed in 2020.
The new Marriott Residence Inn will feature new elevator cabs, updated kitchenettes in every room, and a fully renovated first-floor restaurant space.
"We are taking a five-star hotel and converting it to a luxury extended-stay product," developer Michael Reschke told Crain’s. "It's going to be a very high-end Residence Inn."
The hotel’s restaurants will be curated by Roanoke Hospitality, according to Crain’s. The hospitality group has planned a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant for the first floor, dubbed 101 Patio Bar & Grill. On the 20th floor, the group is planning an American restaurant with a jazz bar.
Located at 101 E. Erie St along Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, developers of the hotel are confident the project will contribute significantly to the neighborhood's ongoing post-pandemic revival.
"We're starting to find success (downtown), and we believe it will be back again," Roanoke Hospitality CEO Michael Gerrish told Crain’s.
