bar avec will host a spice-centric, live-fire rooftop dinner on September 10. The ticketed event will feature Lior Lev Sercarz, the “Spice King” of New York from the highly acclaimed NYC-based spice brand La Boîte. Joining Lior will be the talented Dylan Patel of avec, Greg Wade of Publican Quality Bread, & Chef/Partner Paul Kahan from One Off Hospitality. Guests will enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience under the stars, making for a memorable evening.
Lior is acclaimed globally as an expert in the world of spices. This three-course dinner is inspired by flavors from The Mediterranean and Lior’s new cookbook, “A Middle Eastern Pantry.” Diners attending the dinner will also head home with their signed copy of his new book, released in June 2023. It was designated by Food & Wine as one of the best new summer cookbooks.
The meal will feature a tender hamachi crudo with tahini and pasha pine nuts, tangy chicken Fesenjan stew with pomegranate & walnuts, and shrimp with spicy shatta and rose. Dessert features a mini Knafeh served with ice cream and grilled hawayej spiced pineapple. Guests will also get an exclusive first taste of Spice Brothers, Lior’s fast-casual shawarma restaurant, opening in the Fall of 2023 on St. Marks Place in Manhattan’s East Village.
“Spices are the unsung hero in your pantry. Incorporating them in your recipes can transform the flavor profile of a dish entirely,” said Lior in a press release.
Lior is a well-known spice expert and connoisseur. “Lior is truly a master of his craft,” says Chef Paul Kahan. “No one knows the spice world like this guy does, and chefs in the industry and the culinary world at large are incredibly lucky to have him. We’re thrilled to welcome him to Chicago with a delicious feast overlooking the city, you won’t want to miss it!”
Tickets to this fire cooker, flavor-packed feast are $125/per person, excluding tax and gratuity. The price includes a personally signed copy of Lior’s book, “A Middle Eastern Pantry.” Wine pairings are available for an additional $55/per person. Seatings begin at 4 p.m. For more information about the dinner, please check out baravec.com, visit their location at 640 N. LaSalle Drive, or contact them at 312-736-1740.
