Far more than a travel guide, 100 Things to Do in Illinois Before You Die encourages readers to explore the remarkable diversity of the Prairie State. While many visitors know Illinois for Abraham Lincoln and Chicago, Holmes shines a spotlight on lesser-known treasures, from sandstone-lined waterways and Indigenous heritage sites to world-class museums, theaters, outdoor adventures and quirky overnight stays. The book is packed with ideas for lifelong Illinois residents and first-time visitors alike, making it an ideal bucket-list companion.

During the Oak Lawn appearance, Holmes will also highlight special road trips tied to America’s upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. She’ll share day-trip and weekend itineraries that bring Illinois history to life while making the past engaging and accessible for families and travelers of all ages.

Born and raised in rural northeastern Illinois, Holmes is an award-winning author, speaker, educator, and lifelong travel enthusiast whose previous books have explored history, diversity, art and family themes. Her passion for discovering hidden gems throughout the state is woven into every page of this latest guide.
