46th Annual Scandinavian Day Festival returns to Illinois image one

Fans of the World Cup’s favorite internet star, Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, can now relive some of that same excitement seen from Nordic culture in Chicago’s suburbs. The 46th Annual Scandinavian Day Festival will return to Vasa Park in South Elgin on Sunday, Sept. 13, bringing together food, music and traditions from Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Sweden for one day of Nordic celebration.

According to a press release, organizers have said the event is considered one of Illinois’ most unique Scandinavian festivals and draws visitors from across Chicagoland for its mix of cultural displays, live entertainment and family fun.

Admission is $15, and children 12 and under get in free.

Food, folk dance and Vikings

Guests can sample traditional Scandinavian foods such as Swedish meatballs, fried herring, pølse, kringle and æbleskiver, per the website.

The festival also features folk dancers, Scandinavian artisans, vendors, cultural organizations and living history exhibits, including Vikings who help bring Nordic history to life. Families will find complimentary children’s activities, including pony rides, face painting, crafts and access to the park’s playground.

The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Vasa Park, 35W217 Route 31, South Elgin, and more information is available at ScandinavianDayIL.com.
