Mozart fans, rejoice! Lyric Opera of Chicago is bringing the best of legendary composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to the stage throughout its 2026-27 season with the productions of “Don Giovanni” and “Amadeus LIVE.”
The opera house’s season will launch with Mozart’s thrilling masterpiece, “Don Giovanni,” a story of deceit, desire, and revenge. The production runs from Saturday, October 10, through Sunday, November 1.
According to a press release by Lyric Opera of Chicago, Music Director Enrique Mazzola leads the orchestra in this bold take on the timeless tale of a seducer whose recklessness leads to his downfall. Bass-baritone Christian Van Horn stars as the title character, bringing charisma and a voice praised for its ability to “shake the heavens,” as detailed by Opera Today.

Amadeus LIVE: Film with live orchestra
Following the opener, audiences can see the award-winning film “Amadeus” on the big screen with music performed live by the Lyric Opera Orchestra and Chorus. The film won eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, according to the website, and tells the story of composer Antonio Salieri’s envy of Mozart’s divine gifts.

Brett Mitchell makes his Lyric debut conducting “Amadeus LIVE,” which runs January 15, 2027, at 7 p.m. through January 16, 2027, at 2 p.m. The event includes English subtitles and lasts 3 hours 15 minutes, with one intermission.
